If both the landlord and the tenant are amenable to the change, a Lease Amendment is a great way to document the change without affecting the rest of the Lease Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples of changes that can be made with this document:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Renewing or extending the length of the lease<\/li>\n<li>Increasing or decreasing the monthly rent<\/li>\n<li>Allowing a pet<\/li>\n<li>Swapping or substituting tenants<\/li>\n<li>Adding a guarantor<\/li>\n<li>Adding a parking space or storage unit to the leased premises<\/li>\n<li>Requiring the tenant to get renter\u2019s insurance<\/li>\n<li>Allowing the tenant to construct certain improvements<\/li>\n<li>Deleting a certain sentence or restriction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<aside class=\"tip\">Looking for an amendment specifically prohibiting smoking on your property? Create a free\u00a0smoking lease addendum.<\/aside>\n<h2 id=\"Consequences-of-Not-Using-Lease-Amendment-Form\">Consequences of Not Using a Lease Amendment Form<\/h2>\n<p>A Lease Amendment is a handy way to make changes that aren\u2019t complicated and can be documented in a paragraph or two. No matter how good your relationship with your landlord or tenant is, you will want to make sure that any agreed upon changes are in writing.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t use a Lease Amendment, you may be stuck with terms to your lease that are unfavorable or aren\u2019t what you and the other party want.
